Starbucks x Pentatonic
To save our environment, we're going to need to work together, as one movement. That's why collaborations are so important to us.
We're delighted to announce the beginning of our partnership with Starbucks UK.
To support Starbucks with its plan to decrease its environmental footprint through innovative store design, we're working together to create furniture and textiles out of their own store waste.
Our first project together has been to re-engineer the iconic Starbucks 'Bean' chair, crafted in the Pentatonic Trash Lab with waste from coffee cups and lids.
The Starbucks x Pentatonic 'Bean' chair is modular, can be flat packed and is predominantly made with polyethylene terephthalate, commonly known as P.E.T., the material found in plastic water bottles and frappucino cups. The upholstery has been carefully woven on precision looms using recycled P.E.T. yarns with hand-finished details applied by the Pentatonic product team.
TO LAUNCH THE PARTNERSHIP, PENTATONIC AND STARBUCKS HAVE ALSO COLLABORATED ON A STARBUCKS POP-UP BAR CONSTRUCTED ENTIRELY FROM ITS OWN WASTE MATERIALS. THIS BESPOKE STARBUCKS BAR WILL RESIDE WITHIN PENTATONIC’S SHOREDITCH POP-UP STORE, OPEN NOW UNTIL 12 OCTOBER. SERVING NITRO COLD BREW AND CHEMEX BREWED COFFEE, ALL PROCEEDS DONATED TO CLEAN UP BRITAIN.
THE BAR IS THE FIRST TO FEATURE THE SPECIALLY PRODUCED BEAN CHAIR, AS WELL AS A COUNTER TOP AND TABLES MADE FROM STARBUCKS RECYCLED PAPER CUPS AND A BACKDROP MADE UP OF 1,200 TILES MADE IN LONDON FROM PLASTIC CUPS AND COFFEE CUP LIDS. THE TILES WILL BE FORMED IN PENTATONIC’S REVOLUTIONARY TRASHPRESSO MOBILE RECYCLING FACTORY IN A LIVE SHOWCASE AT LONDON DESIGN FESTIVAL IN THE COURTYARD OF SOMERSET HOUSE, BETWEEN 18 – 24 SEPTEMBER.
STAY TUNED FOR MORE INFORMATION ON THE PARTNERSHIP, BUT FOR NOW PLEASE DROP BY THE PENTATONIC SHOREDITCH POP-UP FOR A COFFEE AND A ROAD TEST OF THE FIRST PIECES….
